Department 19 (ARC) by Will Hill

Department 19 (Department 19, #1)
Department 19 (ARC) by Will Hill

Description from goodreads:
In a secret supernatural battle that's been raging for over a century, the stakes have just been raised -- and they're not wooden anymore. When Jamie Carpenter's mother is kidnapped by strange creatures, he finds himself dragged into Department 19, the government's most secret agency. Fortunately for Jamie, Department 19 can provide the tools he needs to find his mother, and to kill the vampires who want him dead. But unfortunately for everyone, something much older is stirring, something even Department 19 can't stand up against!

Nicole's REVIEW:

So I did not finish the book, I got about 100 pages in and couldn't finish it. I usually don't read in boys perspectives, so I was not really into this, also it kept switching places in time. I am also not a big a sci-fi fan. This was not a good book choice for ME.

So I had my sister read it. Heres her review.....

Erika's REVIEW:

This book is about a boy named Jamie; he did not believe in vampires, werewolves, or Frankenstein the monster, until two years after his dad died and his mother got kidnaped by one of the oldest vampires in the world. He goes to department 19 once he was rescued by Frankenstein. Jamie learns some disturbing things about his dad, that he later finds out his dad did not do the things that he was acuused of. Jamie ends up getting a lot of help from Larissa, a vampire who had tried to kill him twice. Jamie gets a couple of leads as to where his mother is, but when he goes and checks them out  it seems like Alexandru is aways one step ahead of them. Jamie can only come to one conclussion, that somebody that he thought that he could trust is telling Alexandru when they are coming, but in the end Jamie gets the best of Alexandru and defeats him.
I really liked this book because Will Hill had put two epic stories together in one and it was really interesting. I really liked how it ended because it wasn't what I was expecting. I thought that it was well written because it had a lot of back ground information on Dracula and other things. I can not wait for the second one to come out, if there is going to be a second one. Erika gives the book a 5/5. She Loved it.

Lynn Visible Review

Lynn Visible
LynnVisible by Julia DeVillers

Description from goodreads:
The coolest teen fashion magazine is looking for fashion-savvy girls to be on their advisory panel. It's perfect for Lynn Vincent, who eats, breathes, and sleeps fashion. However Lynn is so fashion forward that shes years ahead of the trends in her small town. Lynn is so in, she's out, especially with Chasey Welch and her popular circle. But Lynn may finally get her moment in the spotlight and on the runway when a famous designer gets her hands on one of Lynns unique creations.

Lynn is just entering highschool, she expresses herself through what she wears, including a polly pocket necklace. Everywhere she goes she is stared at, not because of her looks, her clothes, she wears what she is feeling. She is also tormented by The "It" girl at school.
When Lynn decides to try out for the IT Panel for a fashion magazine, it goes horribly wrong and ends up with her shoe ending up in a major fashion designers salad. She is so embarassed she runs away.
Wierd thing is the fashion designer is really impressed with Lynn's shoe. They name Lynn the face of the magazine, but when things start heading in the wrong direction Lynn stays true and decides to not let the "shoe" become millions of shoes.

This was one of those books that was an easy read, but it was super predictable. I thought it was a total cliche and I wish I could of liked it more. If I was younger, this would have been a good book. It teaches good lessons like be yourself and don't let someone change you and take advantage of you. 3/5

The Body Finder Review

The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1)
The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

Description from goodreads:
Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.

Violet has a power to sense murdered dead bodies, she feels their echoes and the imprints left behind on the killers. Jay is Violet's best friend, and lately Violet has been getting some pretty strange feelings for him, good thing it's not one sided. So when Violet becomes the target of the murderer killing girls in town, Jay protects her and helps her find the killer.

this book has been one I have been wanting to read for a long time It was good, but I was a little disappointed. I liked that I got to see the point of view from the killer too, and Violet. I would never want the ability to sense murdered bodies, unless it would help someone or if it was someone I love, but otherwise no. I liked Jay and thought they were really cute together, but I was slightly bored at times. I will be reading the sequal. 4/5

Perfect Review

Perfect by Sara Shepard
Perfect (Pretty Little Liars, #3)
Description from goodreads:

In a town where gossip thrives like the ivy that clings to its mansions, where mysteries lie behind manicured hedges and skeletons hide in every walk-in closet, four perfect-looking girls aren't nearly as perfect as they seem.
Three years ago, Spencer, Aria, Emily, Hanna, and their best friend Alison were the girls at Rosewood Day School. They clicked through the halls in their Miu Miu flats, tanned in their matching Pucci bikinis, and laughed behind their freshly manicured fingernails. They were the girls everyone loved but secretly hated—especially Alison.
So when Alison mysteriously vanished one night, Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna's grief was tinged with . . . relief. And when Alison's body was later discovered in her own backyard, the girls were forced to unearth some ugly memories of their old friend, too. Could there be more to Alison's death than anyone realizes?
Now someone named A, someone who seems to know everything, is pointing the finger at one of them for Ali's murder. As their secrets get darker and their scandals turn deadly, A is poised to ruin their perfect little lives forever.

Hanna and Mona are no longer bff's because Mona was jealous and A keeps doing totally bitchy things to Hanna. Then Lucas is the only one really being nice to Hanna, and to top it off Hanna is hit by a car for knowing to much.

Spencer claims that a paper of Melissa's is hers and it wins a prize of course, so Melissa and Spencer get in a fight. Plus Ian is back...

Aria paints a red A on Merideth (Byron's girl) and Ella gets pissed so Aria moves out and into Sean's house, but when she starts seeing Ezra again Sean finds out and turns Ezra in.

Emily wants to be with Maya, but when her parents figure that out it's either cure the gay or go away. So she tries it, but realizes she can't change who she really is.

I really liked this book, I felt so bad what was happening to the girls, but stealing Melissa's paper was stupid, Spencer was bound to get caught. Mona is a total bi-otch, I wanted to strangle her, but I hope Hanna will do it later. Liked this a lot, wonder what happens to Hanna (any different than show? I do not know...yet). 4/5

Eternal Review

Eternal (Tantalize, #2)
Description from goodreads:
With diabolical wit, the author of TANATALIZE revisits a deliciously dark world where vampires vie with angels — and girls just want to have fangs.
At last, Miranda is the life of the party: all she had to do was die. Elevated and adopted by none other than the reigning King of the Mantle of Dracul, Miranda goes from high-school theater wannabe to glamorous royal fiend overnight. Meanwhile, her reckless and adoring guardian angel, Zachary, demoted to human guise as the princess’s personal assistant, has his work cut out for him trying to save his girl’s soul and plan the Master’s fast-approaching Death Day gala. In alternating points of view, Miranda and Zachary navigate a cut-throat eternal aristocracy as they play out a dangerous and darkly hilarious love story for the ages.

Well apparantly this is book two in a series, I did not know, but I didn't feel like I missed anything, I didn't notice at all.

Miranda is a normal, quiet girl until one night in a cemetary she is turned into vampire and starts feasting upon human blood. Has lost her soul.

Zachary was Miranda's guardian angel, but after making his presence known to her he isn't anymore. For awhile not knowing where Miranda was, then he finds her, becomes her personal assistant and tries to save her soul before the old her is completely gone.

This was a great book.
I liked Zach quite a lot since the beginning and nothing changed, he protected Miranda and made sure she didn't lose her soul. It was sad to see Miranda change so much from the girl she was, but she managed to hold on, I am excited to see what happens next. 5/5

Flawless Review

Flawless (Pretty Little Liars, #2)
Description from goodreads:

Spencer stole her sister's boyfriend. Aria is brokenhearted over her English teacher. Emily likes her new friend Maya . . . as much more than a friend. Hanna's obsession with looking flawless is making her sick. And their most horrible secret yet is so scandalous that the truth would ruin them forever.
And why shouldn't I tell? They deserve to lose it all. With every crumpled note, wicked IM, and vindictive text message I send, I'll be taking these pretty little liars down. Trust me, I've got enough dirt to bury them alive.

Once again the girls are trying to prevent secrets that only Alison knew from coming out. A is still watching, and the one person who they thought killed Alison, is dead. Well, I still don't know who killed Alison, I hope I find out soon, maybe the next book will tell. 4/5

Pretty Little Liars Review

Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1)
Description from goodreads:
Three years ago, Alison disappeared after a slumber party, not to be seen since. Her friends at the elite Pennsylvania school mourned her, but they also breathed secret sighs of relief. Each of them guarded a secret that only Alison had known. Now they have other dirty little secrets, secrets that could sink them in their gossip-hungry world. When each of them begins receiving anonymous emails and text messages, panic, sets in. Are they being betrayed by some one in their circle? Worse yet: Is Alison back? A strong launch for a suspenseful series.

Aria, Emily, spencer and Hanna best friends before their friend disappeared, not anymore.

Aria just got back from Iceland and is hooking up with the hot new English teacher. She is also keeping a secret from Ella, Byron is having an affair.

Emily loved Alison, REALLY loved her, like more than a friend. So when Maya her new neighbor moves into Alison's old house things start heating uo between them, but will the secret come out?

Spencer is kissing her sisters boyfriend and it's not the first time. She also kissed Ian, a previous love of Melissas.

Hanna has become popular, skinny, good hair, and great clothes. But these things don't come easy, she throws up to stay skinny, dyes her hair, and steals.

I love this book, I want to know who killed Allison and I want to know what happens with all the girls love lifes and if all the screts only Alison knew will come pouring out? 4/5

A Great and Terrible Beauty Review

A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1)
Description from goodreads:
A Victorian boarding school story, a Gothic mansion mystery, a gossipy romp about a clique of girlfriends, and a dark other-worldly fantasy--jumble them all together and you have this complicated and unusual first novel.
Sixteen-year-old Gemma has had an unconventional upbringing in India, until the day she foresees her mother's death in a black, swirling vision that turns out to be true. Sent back to England, she is enrolled at Spence, a girls' academy with a mysterious burned-out East Wing. There Gemma is snubbed by powerful Felicity, beautiful Pippa, and even her own dumpy roommate Ann, until she blackmails herself and Ann into the treacherous clique. Gemma is distressed to find that she has been followed from India by Kartik, a beautiful young man who warns her to fight off the visions. Nevertheless, they continue, and one night she is led by a child-spirit to find a diary that reveals the secrets of a mystical Order. The clique soon finds a way to accompany Gemma to the other-world realms of her visions "for a bit of fun" and to taste the power they will never have as Victorian wives, but they discover that the delights of the realms are overwhelmed by a menace they cannot control. Gemma is left with the knowledge that her role as the link between worlds leaves her with a mission to seek out the "others" and rebuild the Order. A Great and Terrible Beauty is an impressive first book in what should prove to be a fascinating trilogy.

I couldn't help being kind of disappointed with this book, I was so excited to read it, but I found the story really good but it was dull to me.

It took me like two weeks to get through it, but I liked finding out about Kartik and about why Gemma sees wierd things. Why she could see her mother. 3/5
